Krystal, wanting her food!
February 2002
Several people have commented on how much Krystal looks like little Gem, I must admit they are right - there is a strong similarity in looks.
Krystal was my attempt at choosing a healthy kitten, but I'm sad to say I strongly suspect she is not as healthy as I'd like her to be. She is now eight months old and still unable to jump, she climbs well, but just can't use her legs to jump. At first I thought this may be because her legs are shorter than the legs of most cats, but I've noticed she also sits is unusual positions and walks in an awkward looking way.
At the next vet check, I'm going to arrange a hip x-ray to try and find out exactly what is wrong. Maybe it's nothing, maybe she just doesn't want to jump. But, in my experience, it's not normal for an eight month kitten to still need lifting everywhere.
I am also concerned that Krystal seems to be overweight. In an adult cat this would be more acceptable, but in a kitten Krystal's age it's just not right - especially as she is not over fed in any way and is very active.
To say the least I'm concerned, hopefully the vet check will put my mind at rest. I'll make sure this page is always up to date.
Looking very cute!
